17th May 2005
A fantasic effort from all concerned (especially Dom). Cafe Latte and flapjacks by the river Dee.
A great day out. Soon, we'll be doing the trip for real. This was our last cycle together before
the start of our expedition into Cheshire. So try and keep up the cycling.

Dom & I went out together today. Only about 23 miles, but it was another great effort from Dom,
putting in the miles before our trip.

4th May 2005
Damo's "Dog's dongles" put us all to shame and he blasted round like a 10 year-old kid on steroids!!!!
Special mention must go the his impression of a 'dying ant riding a bicycle' on Oldfield Road, Heswall.

Once again Dom continues to shine. He's really training hard. Keep up the go work.

25th April 2005
Well done to all those out on Saturday. Despite the punctures, it was a great trip, the
highlight being coffee at the "Blue Moon" cafe.
Dom's putting the effort in by another trip on Sunday .... Great stuff !!!!!

13th April 2005
Does anybody read this ?
Let me know if there's something missing ....
11th April 2005
A rest for eveybody this weekend.
As of today we've only got 46 days to go and that means only 6 more Saturday mornings.
I'd like to suggest that we up the distance slightly, say about 60 miles. Any comments?
Dom has been looking at bikes and he looks pretty certain to buy a "Specialized" hybrid from "The Bike Shop" at Boughton.
At a penny under £500, he's not buying a heap of junk. I believe he'll be getting some other bits from Wiggle.
So Sean'll welcome the return of his kit. (B.T.W.... did that include undies ?)
He's confident that he'll be able to put in the work to be able to accompany us .... Let's hope so !
5th April 2005
Well .... what a lazy bazzer I've been!!! I've not updated this site for a while, depite a number of rides
and an excellent week's holiday.
Last Saturday, Damo, Mick and myself went out for a jaunt. It was fantastic;
great weather and good company. The only blot on the landscape being Damo's puncture.
The puncture got me thinking about what we need to take with us in terms of spare & tools.
The following is a preliminary list of items each person needs to carry:
- Puncture Repair Kit
- Spare Inner Tube
- Spanner for wheel (if you don't have quick release)
- Pump
- Assorted Allen Keys
- Mini Pliers
- Zip ties
- Small can of lubricant (e.g. WD-40)
- Rag
14th March 2005

Hoylake - Chester - Hoylake
49 mile round trip .... well done everybody !
Dom was busy working and couldn't make it.
Now you know what you'll feel like on the 'real' trip, I wonder if there'll be some "drop-outs". Be prepared for some good excuses!
10th March 2005
This Saturday, we'll be setting off from Sean's at about 7:15am for a sprint around the backwaters of Wirral.
I expect Dom will borrow one of Sean's 'beasts' along with a top, shorts and tracksuit bottoms.
This may be the first weekend with everyone present. Let's make it a good one!

9th March 2005
Well done for those intrepid chaps who went out last Saturday.
One "Fat Bazzer" was missing ..... lazy bugger!!!! "Squeaky Bot" or not, I should have been there.
Dom's still not bought his 'hog'. Time's running out Matey!

1st March 2005
Another month has gone and probably we're all no better off for all our efforts.
I shall be trying to loose some weight and my target is 15 1/2 stone. If I manage to get below that, I'll have to create a new category "Silph"!
Dom has yet to get a bike and I have it on good authority that he'll by cycling by proxy (Katie or Maria) instead.

28th February 2005
Well done to the four intrepid participants of Saturday's trip.
Despite being under par (visibly ill), Mick performed admirably and managed to complete the course.
Dom has intimated that he might be joining us next week. If he doesn't, I'm sure it will be a big disappointment for him

22nd February 2005
Last night I spoke to Sean. He's definitely up for the jaunt.
Any other takers ?
B.T.W. Sean & Joey have signed up for a triathlon on 22nd May 2005, just a week before we go.
I'd like to remind him that it's a individual event and not a team one !!!!
21st February 2005
Dom's been doing his stuff on the exercise bike and I've been informed that he has increased the frequency to 4-5 times a week
I've spoken to Sean & Mick about a little ride this coming Saturday. Dom's obviously out, but Damo might be interested.
Sunrise is a little after seven o'clock (07:06), so if Sean & I start at quarter-past (07:15), we should reach Greasby by seven thirty (07:30).
I suggest a jaunt to Willaston, Burton & back.
Start | End | Miles |
|
Hoylake | Greasby | 3.8 |
Greasby | Irby | 2.1 |
Irby | Barnston | 2.2 |
Barnston | Thornton Hough | 2.6 |
Thornton Hough | Willaston | 2.8 |
Willaston | Burton | 2.4 |
Burton | Ness | 1.6 |

West Kirby (Dee Hotel) | Hoylake | 1.8 |

If we average 10 mph, we should be back for about ten thirty (10:30). Any Comments?
Dom's running out of time to honour his promise to buy a bike before the end of the month.
8th February 2005
I have to confess that I've been missing out on my gym sessions, yesterday and today.
This morning I cycled along the front from Hoylake via Harrison Drive to Woodside. It was a beautiful morning without any wind. Bloody cold though!
B.T.W. Dom has promised to buy a bike before the end of the month. Fingers crossed
3rd February 2005
It appears that Mick has been putting shoe to concrete and jogging around the mean streets of Greasby. Well done!
He's also abandoned a new 'racing' saddle that I'd bought for him and replaced it with a saddle which can only be described as "An armchair".
I'm not saying Mick's butt is big, but there's room for me, my wife and two kids plus the telly!!!!!
2nd February 2005
It appears that most of you (I'm not sure about Damo) have been right lazy bazzers and haven't been doing any preparation for our expedition!!!
I'd like to point out that we'll be doing over 70 miles on Day 1, meaning you'll all be suffering with "Biker's Ring". So dust off your trusty steeds (bikes) and get going.
25th January 2005
Dom's 'fessed up. Lazy Blighter hasn't been doing anything since last week!!!
Back on my bike today, and it's fab! Roy's done a great job fixing it up. It doesn't go any faster but it's a lot smoother.
24th January 2005
The funeral on Thursday and the 'wake' afterwards has taken its toll. Dom's been out of action.
Spoke to Paul O'Toole, who is a fully qualified Personal Trainer. Give him a buzz if you think he might be able to help you. 0781-2891857 or 201-1172. He manages the "White Lion" in West Kirby, so pop in and discuss your training plan with him over a pint!
My bike's in with Roy Davies (632-1419) getting a service and the headset fixed. It should be out today. Yippee!!!!
18th January 2005
Checked with Lindy to see if Dom has been doing his bit ... 30 mins on his bike.
Well Done!!!!
17th January 2005
Dom has agreed to start his training schedule with a daily 30 minute bash on his exercise bike.
Congratulations!!!!
Here's a link to a site showing a
Professional Cyclist's Gym Regimen
It might be a bit much for us, but could provide some ideas.
Your 'arse' is the number 1 bit you need to train for !! It will take a fair punishment on this trip.
To help acclimatize your 'ring', in the last few weeks preceding our journey, cycle on consecutive days.
To put things in perspective, I'm riding to work each day (about 18 miles daily).
I'm sure I won't suffer too badly
